Descaling

Descaling is removing mineral buildup from a fixture with an acidic solution or a dedicated product, the actual fix for the limescale that Malta's hard water leaves behind.

Why it is not part of a normal turnover

A regular turnover wipes surfaces down within a fixed time window, and descaling a showerhead or tap properly needs the solution to sit for a while before rinsing, which does not fit inside that window. It is a task done periodically, not on every single clean.

What happens without it

Skipped long enough, limescale builds up thick enough to restrict water flow through a showerhead or tap, turning a cosmetic issue into a functional one. Periodic descaling is what keeps it from reaching that point.

Conclusion

Descaling is the actual fix for limescale, done on its own schedule rather than as part of every regular turnover.
